Justin is a person with quadriplegia, determined not to let challenges hold him back when it comes to his future! His journey highlights how the right support and inclusive opportunities can make all the difference.
Keen to pursue employment, Justin connected with MatchWorks as a Disability Support Pension (DSP) voluntary participant to gain support with finding employment.
From the outset, his intelligence and engaging personality made a strong impression on the MatchWorks team. Employment Consultants Chaula and Benton took the time to understand Justin’s aspirations and provided tailored guidance to help him achieve his goals.
Recognising Justin’s potential, Benton reached out to Acciona, one of MatchWorks’ valued employer partners, and connected with Tim, Acciona’s Social Sustainability Manager. Tim saw an opportunity for Justin to thrive and recommended a traineeship within Acciona’s Diversity and Inclusion team.
With Benton’s support, Justin attended an interview where he met Tim, along with Casey, Head of Training and Onboarding, and Jenna, Head of Diversity and Inclusion. His enthusiasm and determination stood out, and he was soon offered the role.
MatchWorks worked closely with Acciona and Justin to ensure a smooth transition into the workplace, including necessary adjustments to accommodate his wheelchair and create an accessible, inclusive environment.
Now, three months into his role, Justin is thriving. He’s progressing towards a Certificate III in Business Administration, has increased his working hours to 16 per week, and is growing more confident each day. He’s also developed new skills in Excel and database management and is actively contributing to key projects across the business.
Justin’s journey is far from over, his next goal is to drive independently. His story is a powerful reminder of how inclusive workplaces and dedicated support can truly change lives.
