NDIS Connect Success: Kael’s Journey to Employment
With tailored, strengths-based support from MatchWorks, Kael has made significant progress towards achieving his employment goals.
Kael commenced with the Disability Employment Services (DES) program at Greensborough in 2019, seeking support to build self-confidence, motivation, and resilience. The MatchWorks team worked closely with him to identify employment goals that aligned with his interests and strengths. Guidance was also provided to Kael and his mother throughout the NDIS application process to help them access additional supports.
To enhance his confidence and employability skills, Kael took part in several group programs delivered by MatchWorks. With a strong interest in working with animals, he was supported to attend an interview at The Cottage Kennels and Cattery. He was successful and commenced employment there in January 2023.
To ensure a smooth transition into the workplace, Post Placement Support (PPS) Consultant Nicholas worked alongside Kael’s NDIS Support Worker to create structured workplace plans and deliver on-the-job support. Nicholas also provided the employer with relevant resources to assist Kael in the workplace.
As Kael’s skills and confidence continued to grow, further employment opportunities emerged. In late 2024, he began work experience at Bunnings, which aligned closely with his long-term career goals. His commitment and performance led to a new paid employment opportunity shortly thereafter.
Nicholas continues to provide tailored PPS support, assisting with workplace inductions, helping to establish consistent routines, and supporting Kael in obtaining his forklift licence. Regular collaboration with Kael’s Support Worker ensures that he remains well supported in both roles.
Kael is now enjoying a fulfilling employment journey, continuing his valued work with animals at the kennel while also building a new career at Bunnings.
