More than a job – Bailey finds belonging at work

When Werribee youth participant Bailey first registered directly with MatchWorks, he was looking for support to achieve his employment goals and build a brighter future. Having previously worked in the automotive industry, Bailey was hesitant to return to the field after a negative experience had impacted both his confidence and enthusiasm for the sector. With the support of his Employment Consultant, Laura, he began exploring alternative career pathways that aligned with his interests, strengths and long-term aspirations, while still allowing him to work around cars, an area he remained passionate about.

To prepare for employment, Bailey participated in a range of activities designed to build his confidence, skills and workplace readiness, including volunteering opportunities. These experiences helped him strengthen his transferable skills and regain the confidence needed to re-enter the workforce.

Working closely with MatchWorks’ Employer Engagement Partners, Bailey was connected with a local employment opportunity and, in late 2025, was offered the chance to complete a work trial at a local car wash. The trial proved to be a success, and he soon secured ongoing employment.

MatchWorks continued to support Bailey throughout his transition into work, including assisting with his uniform requirements and ensuring he was set up for success from day one. Starting with limited hours, he quickly impressed his employer with his enthusiasm, reliability and strong work ethic. As a result, he was offered additional shifts and greater responsibilities.

Through ongoing Post Placement Support, MatchWorks worked collaboratively with both Bailey and his employer to address any workplace challenges and help him settle confidently into his role. The employer’s inclusive and supportive approach has played a significant role in Bailey’s success. When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Bailey says he loves coming to work, feels valued as part of the team and enjoys sharing his achievements with his In-Work Mentor, Jennifer.

Today, Bailey continues to grow in confidence and capability, demonstrating the positive impact that the right support and opportunities can have. We look forward to seeing him continue to thrive and achieve even greater success in his employment journey.
