MatchWorks and headspace QLD: Empowering Young People into Employment

Queensland DES Regional Manager Leah Dixon is making a meaningful impact through her ongoing collaboration with headspace Strathpine and Indooroopilly.

Each month, Leah provides in-kind support at both centres, helping young people prepare for the workforce while building confidence and resilience.

Her support includes:

  • Resume and cover letter development
  • Interview coaching and confidence building
  • Identifying transferable skills
  • Career exploration through quizzes and one-on-one discussions
  • Goal setting and career planning
  • Exploring realistic pathways toward dream jobs

Focusing on ability rather than disability, Leah empowers young people to unlock opportunities in the hidden job market and take positive steps toward employment.

“The work MatchWorks does at headspace is transforming young people into employment and supporting them through their years of study,” Leah said. “Providing support and guidance to youth accessing headspace services has been incredibly rewarding.”

One young person shared:

“I couldn’t have done this without the support of MatchWorks. I had never had a resume and had no idea how to market myself or complete an interview. Now I’m working part-time in the industry I’m studying in.”

Leah’s collaboration with headspace is not only connecting young people with job opportunities but also giving them the confidence to believe in themselves and build brighter futures.
