Celebrating Harmony Week: Marleen’s Journey to Success in Australia
In celebration of Harmony Week, we honour the rich diversity that makes Australia a vibrant and inclusive nation. At MatchWorks, we are committed to supporting individuals from all cultural backgrounds, empowering them to achieve their goals and build fulfilling lives.
Marleen’s journey is a perfect example of how the right support system can help someone thrive in a new country, embracing opportunities despite challenges.
Marleen’s Journey: Finding Success with MatchWorks
At 26, Marleen left her home country to build a new life in Australia. Despite her determination, she faced language barriers and limited employment skills, making it challenging to find work. She sought guidance and connected with MatchWorks Workforce Australia in Fairfield, where she received the support she needed to overcome these obstacles.
With the help of Employment Consultant Kim, Marleen set clear career goals and enrolled in the Adult Migrant English Program to improve her language skills. She also obtained her White and Blue Cards, broadening her employment opportunities.
Kim referred Marleen to Atoor, MatchWorks’ Refugee Liaison Officer, who mentored her through the Kick Start program. With Atoor’s guidance, Marleen developed confidence in job searching, budgeting, and planning for her future.
MatchWorks’ Employer Engagement Partner then assisted Marleen in securing a role at Lush. To ensure a smooth transition, Post-Placement Support Officer Layla provided ongoing assistance, helping her adjust to her new role and workplace culture. Marleen’s dedication and perseverance soon paid off when Lush recognised her potential and offered her a full-time position.
Marleen’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the impact of the right support system. With MatchWorks’ guidance, she has achieved financial independence and a rewarding career- proving that with the right resources, anything is possible.
