Broadmeadows job seeker Kaine has turned a volunteer position at a local church into a paid position with hard work and determination.

Kaine, 19, has cerebral palsy and limited use of his left arm. He came to MatchWorks Broadmeadows in September 2016 with no employment history.

He worked with MatchWorks Broadmeadows DES Employment Consultant Trish McLaren to improve his employability skills, while he was volunteering at Crossway North Church in Craigieburn.

“Kaine is now employed at the church as all-rounder. His duties include cleaning the church, setting up for sermons, play groups and private functions as well as working in the church café,” Trish said.

“MatchWorks has assisted Kaine in his role by recently purchasing a new vacuum cleaner and a trolley for the church and also funding his barista course. Kaine works eight hours a week in paid employment and continues to volunteer.”

Matchworks has assisted the employer with wage subsidies for training purposes and will continue to offer post-placement support.
