Mandurah job seeker transitions from intern to apprentice

Mandurah job seeker Troy came to Employment Services Group (ESG) in late March 2017 after experiencing a negative experience in his search for employment

Troy was expecting more from ESG and told his job coach Dianne Woodley that he wanted to find work in the hospitality industry. He was then referred to complete his Responsible Serving of Alcohol.

“It soon became clear that he wanted to become a chef, so we then did a Food Handling Certificate and we booked him into the Skills and Jobs Australia program to help find Troy employment,” Dianne said.

“Due to his engagement in Skills and Jobs Australia, Troy was regularly attending the office extremely well presented. This caught the eye of our employer solutions consultant Becc Stevens who wanted to assist Troy to find an opportunity as an apprentice chef.”

Becc began marketing Troy as an intern through the Australian Government PaTH initiative and he landed a role at the Tree of Life Café in August 2017.

“The feedback from the employer has been absolutely amazing and Becc has worked closely with them to ensure Troy had every opportunity to engage into an apprenticeship. This included setting up and attending meetings with training providers,” Dianne said.

“Becc has since placed three further job seekers into employment at the Tree of Life Café and at the employer’s other restaurant Copper Tiffin. The employer said they are extremely happy with the service and quality of staff they have received from ESG and have been spreading the word.”

Troy transitioned from an intern to an Apprentice Chef in October 2017 and couldn’t be happier.
