Coles finds the perfect fit in South East Queensland job seekers
Coles has continued a relationship with MatchWorks for almost two years resulting in the employment of more than 12 job seekers across North Brisbane region Somerset.
Coles Brookside, near Mitchelton Queensland, started a relationship with MatchWorks in November 2016 through a pre-employment program and recruited long-term unemployed job seeker Joshua.
Coles Brookside team leader Frank Ahuriri said he initially heard about MatchWorks through Joshua.
Joshua, who has a learning disability, had transport issues and very limited work history when he applied for the position online.
“Joshua completed training through MatchWorks, linking him to a pre-employment program, and successfully gained his Certificate II in Retail tailored for Coles. This started the ball rolling for his employment opportunity,” Frank said.
“When Joshua first started work he did not have a vehicle. Now that he is working he has been able to purchase one to get to work.”
Frank said he had developed a good relationship with MatchWorks employment consultant Tracey Onekawa, who has been in regular contact throughout Joshua’s employment, providing valuable personal and professional supports and mentoring.
“Tracey is in regular contact with Joshua and has made herself available for post-placement support. I work with Joshua on a daily basis and he is fitting in well,” Frank said.
