Congratulations to Emily Markham, winner of the Employment Consultant of the Year award at last night’s 2021 NESA Awards for Excellence in Canberra.

Emily is part of our Noarlunga team and is helping shape the future of employment services in Australia. She has an outstanding track record of supporting the most disadvantaged clients in her local community, and we’re incredibly proud to see her recognised for her excellence.

Helping others find pride and purpose

Emily joined MatchWorks in 2019 after a 15-year career in Retail and Hospitality.

“The MatchWorks values really spoke to me,” Emily said. “I’d enjoyed my charity work with KFC Foundation and World Hunger Organisation, and I was passionate about fundraising. Working for a not-for-profit supporting people was the opportunity I’d been searching for so I could do more for my community.

“I love helping other grow and better themselves. Joining the NEST* team has given me an opportunity to trial new initiatives and collaborate with clients for better results. Many are able to afford necessities for the first time. Many more have overcome years of barriers to build a future where they have pride and purpose in their lives.”

Well done Emily!

Atoor a finalist in Achiever of the Year award

We’re also incredibly proud of Atoor Tamris who was a finalist in the Achiever of the Year category. Atoor showed incredible resilience and determination after she was forced to flee her home country of Iraq and start a new life in Australia. Now Atoor is using her lived-experience and passion for helping others to mentor other refugees in Australia.

Atoor at work in her role as Refugee Liaison Officer at MatchWorks Fairfield, NSW.

“Because of this job, I returned to the same person I was, strong and dancing,” Atoor said.

“I feel empowered to look to my future. Now I try to help my clients take that first step. I always share my experience with my clients, to let them know that yes this is real, I came to Australia as a refugee just like them. I had no working history here like them. But I studied, I got good support from the right people and now I am working. I mentor and guide them to access the right services like I did, to help them to start their new life in this beautiful generous country and motivate them to reach their goals.”

Congratulations Atoor! We’re so lucky to have you as part of our Fairfield team and thank you for sharing your inspiring story.

Atoor’s full story is coming soon.
