A different approach pays off – Elise’s story.

Stepping out of her comfort zone has paid off for Elise Russell. She recently celebrated two years in her role with Membranes Australia after attending The Atherstone Exchange Employer Expo.

Despite having retail experience and a Certificate III in Childcare, Elise was struggling when she first met with the team at MatchWorks Melton. “I was feeling overwhelmed by the challenges I was facing,” Elise said. “My mental health was suffering, and I couldn’t pay my bills.”

New opportunities

The young job seeker was referred to former MatchWorks Service Development and Projects Trainer, Kristie Dawe who was running a weekly youth program in Melton.

“The program really helped Elise to become job ready,” Kristie said. “When I found out about the Atherstone Exchange Employer Expo that was being held, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for Elise to meet potential employers.”

Elise attended the Employer Expo where she was introduced to Chris Bell, Managing Director, Membranes Australia. He was impressed by Elise’s skills, and offered her an opportunity to interview for the Executive Assistant role.

Kristie and MatchWorks Business Development Consultant, Filiz Huseyin assisted Elise and Chris through the recruitment process. They helped:

  • Elise prepare for the interview.
  • Assist Elise after she accepted a role with Membranes Australia.
  • Chris navigate the post-placement support available to employers.

Flourishing in her career

Attending the Employer Expo was life-changing for Elise, who has thrived in her role.

“I am more confident now in every way,” Elise said. “I’m enjoying my role; the best part is meeting and helping people. I’m making plans for the future and I’m looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.”
