Youth program boosts Melton job seeker

Melton job seeker Paige Mozjerin has secured employment after completing a MatchWorks youth program.

Melton’s Country Fire Authority office hired Paige after she completed MatchWorks XLR8 Youth Program, which gave her confidence to search for new employment opportunities after being unemployed.

The four week XLR8 program, aimed at job seekers aged between 15 and 21 years old, helps participants engage with their local community while addressing their ongoing barriers to employment.

MatchWorks provided support and mentoring for the job seekers, while specialist guest speakers from a range of services including drug and alcohol counselling, health, youth services and police were also part of the program.

Paige said hearing from guest speakers and potential employers gave her valuable information about her options for work.

“I had no idea how to do interviews, I never knew what to do and what to say but I felt really confident when we had some of the guest speakers come in and explain to you that attitude is always a good thing, and you’re not useless,” she said.

“When you’re in it, you start feeling a lot better about yourself and a lot better about what you can do,” she said.
