Work for the Dole environmental house to benefit Rosebud students
An environment-friendly cubby house constructed by Envision Employment Services and a team of Work for the Dole participants was officially handed over to staff, students and parents of the Eastbourne Primary School in Rosebud today.
The Enviro House project was funded by MatchWorks through the Federal Department of Employment’s Work for the Dole programme and constructed over six months by a team of 24 job seekers.
Envision Employment Services manager Sean Teer said the Enviro House incorporates renewable energy and practical recycling.
“It has home-made recycled water containers to catch and store rainwater runoff, a pedal powered device to power low gen lights, the cladding/roofing is made from computer casing and the windows from computer monitors,” Sean said.

“It will play a great part in the ongoing education of students by working with the environment to help reduce the carbon footprint, while they are having fun generating their own electricity, growing vegetables and recycling water.
“A big thanks to Tony, Joe and the rest of the team at Seaford, particularly Sammy for her artistic work and Erinlee from MatchWorks for all her support.”
Project supervisor Tony Jarrah said the Work for the Dole job seekers had gained and refined valuable skills in trade areas such as carpentry, roofing, plumbing and glazing skills as well as obtaining practical skills that local employers require.
“By participating in this Work for the Dole project, job seekers have learnt the value of punctuality, team work, respect for others, cooperating with supervisors, staff and other participants and practicing appropriate dress, hygiene and attitudes in the workplace,” Tony said.
“Three job seekers were able to secure employment during the project, which is a great result.”
