Sporting passion helps Ibby live his dream

Meet Ibby, who has a passion for sport, an infectious smile and engaging personality. Born with Cerebral Palsy and living with a visual impairment, Ibby had found it challenging to find ongoing employment with a supportive employer. Yet the 26-year-old Greensborough job seeker was determined not to let experiences of bullying and discrimination get in the way of finding his dream job.

Ibby is a much loved member of the WaterMarc team.

With the right support from MatchWorks, Ibby found what he was looking for. It wasn’t easy getting a foot in the door and he experienced many rejections, yet Ibby persisted and found an employer who was impressed with his energy and determination.

“Ibby smashed the interview out of the park and had a smile from ear to ear when he was offered the job at WaterMarc Banyule,” MatchWorks Regional Manager, Marcelo Marcote said.

“We supported Ibby to complete a First Aid Course Level 2 before he commenced and provided post-placement support. We also worked with his employer to modify the role so Ibby could focus on what he could do, rather than what he couldn’t.”

Ibby now works 15 to 20 hours a week and has become a much loved member of the WaterMarc team. He was recently the happy recipient of an excellence award.

“I couldn’t be happier with my job,” Ibby said.

“I am saving for a house and achieving my goals…it’s no longer a dream.”
