Special phone app set to empower and motivate youth to find employment

MatchWorks kicked off a new employment program this week for youth in Bendigo (Victoria), Noarlunga (South Australia) and Strathpine (Queensland) using a specially designed phone app.

MatchWorks is delivering the Australian Government’s Empowering YOUth initiative through the YOUth Community model over the next two years.

Empowering YOUth supports new, innovative approaches to help long-term unemployed young people aged 15 to 24 years to improve their skills and move toward sustainable employment.

MatchWorks Executive Director Renae Lowry said YOUth Community, which is a six-month intensive support program, will give participants the opportunity to have fun, meet new people and reach their employment goals.

“The program will assist participants to develop their social skills, leadership ability, confidence and motivation to seek employment, while receiving one-on-one mentoring support,” Renae said.

“This is a unique program that uses a specially designed phone app called Job Quest, where participants will work together to complete regular activities and challenges. The app aims to motivate participants to reach their goals and complete the program by tracking points based on player achievements as they travel on the pathway to employment.

“We are looking forward to delivering the program and assisting youth to achieve meaningful and lasting employment.”

Further YOUth Community programs will commence next year in Victorian, South Australian and Queensland locations.
