The company has employed more than 20 MatchWorks job seekers with a disability in that time and currently has 11 employed across full-time positions in drainage and plumbing in North-West Melbourne suburbs.

Heath says the partnership has been beneficial for his business, as well as the job seekers who often have to overcome personal barriers.

“I really believe I’ve helped some of the employees change their lives,” he said.

“I have been told by some that I’m the first to show faith in them, believe in them and help them improve. I’d rather employ people who appreciate the job and are reliable. Sometimes all someone actually needs is a chance and that’s enough and we then both benefit.

“I really thank MatchWorks Werribee, and Jodie Hajduk, for the continued working relationship. With over 40 staff in a labour working environment I always have some staff turnover along with a growth period, so it takes the stress out of sorting through the piles of potential employees to gain the ones you need.”
