MatchWorks provides flood relief to junior rugby club

The recent floods in the Hawkesbury-Nepean River region of western Sydney were the worst experienced in 30 years. Flooding peaked at a staggering 12.9 metres and many houses were underwater. The impact on the community was devastating.

With MatchWorks team members directly affected, our local team was compelled to make a positive contribution to a community organisation impacted. Through our MatchWorks in the Community program, they made a vital donation of new equipment to the Hawkesbury Valley Junior Rugby Club.

“The club lost everything in the recent floods and were ineligible for insurance so we wanted to make sure the kids could get back to their sport as soon as possible, especially after last year,” Chris Dufty, MatchWorks Site Manager said.

“They are the only local Rugby Union club in the region and it’s been so positive seeing the kids back out on the field again after so long.”

“When I heard of MatchWorks providing the community grant I couldn’t believe it,” said Malcolm Kaczorowski, Hawkesbury Valley Junior Rugby Club President.

“After the challenges of 2020, our Junior and Minis teams were almost ready to hit the fields and begin training again when the floods hit.

“This donation helped us get the kids training and playing games again, and not just for this year, but for years to come. The kids were so excited to open it all up and test it all out.”

Our MatchWorks in the Community program is focused on making a positive difference to the communities we work within. It’s at the heart of what we do here at MatchWorks, and we’re proud to support community organisations like Hawkesbury Valley Junior Rugby Club, who help people lead happier, healthier lives.
