MatchWorks and Port Adelaide FC team up to empower youth

MatchWorks has partnered with Port Adelaide Football Club (PAFC) to deliver the Empowering Youth program to 17 job seekers aged 18-24.

There are 14 DES and three jobactive job seekers from the Adelaide region taking part in the program which commenced in April 2017.

“The program encourages participants to take responsibility for themselves and others by making positive decisions in relation to their health, lifestyle, finances and career path,” said MatchWorks South Australia Regional Manager Tori Christian.

“The weekly-program involves a mix of class work, physical activity and excursions, which will contribute to physically active and socially engaged young people within the community.”

The first session involved participants visiting the RAAF Base at Edinburgh where they completed various combat activities, including an obstacle course.

Further sessions will cover topics including: leadership, goal setting and positive decision making, motivation and time management, body image and self-esteem and many more.

Job seekers will continue to take part in activities at the Port Adelaide Football Club until their graduation in July. They will then be eligible to participate in the club’s Powerful Futures transition to employment program and MatchWorks will work with PAFC corporate partners to secure employment.
