MatchWorks is proud to partner with Melbourne City Football Club to deliver the City Sisters employment program for young unemployed and underemployed women in the North East Melbourne region.

City Sisters began as a pilot program in 2015 for unemployed and disengaged young women aged 17 to 24 years from the Melbourne suburbs of Epping and Preston. The group of 18 women took part in workshops and sessions to improve their health and well-being while undertaking job search training.

Health, wellbeing and professional guidance

The women worked with football club development staff on soccer, fitness and lifestyles programs. At the same time, they participated in MatchWorks’ job search and interview preparation training covering; career guidance; and a mentorship program with women in business.

The results speak for themselves with 80 per cent of participants finding jobs or going on to further study. The success of City Sisters also generated the launch of the City Start program which creates job opportunities for young men and women from culturally diverse backgrounds.
