Successful Indigenous employment program returns to North East Melbourne
MatchWorks and Employment Services Group (ESG) will come together to deliver the 27th Deadly Yakka program in North East Melbourne on Monday, August 27.
The initiative, specifically designed for Indigenous job seekers, focuses on real employment outcomes and assists people to find a job they will be passionate about.
The Deadly Yakka program is supported nationally by employers from major industries such as Woolworths Group through Diversity Dimensions, Accor Group, Apprenticeship Group Australia, and AFL Sportsready.
The Deadly Yakka program covers goal setting and personal development, life skills for work, interview skills, cultural awareness training, presentation advice, workplace expectations and job search skills – while also addressing personal barriers to understand what has been holding participants back in their journey to work.

MatchWorks Executive Director Renae Lowry said the Deadly Yakka program continued to deliver outstanding results for job seekers and their families.
“The Deadly Yakka program is all about community building, as often job seekers will bring along family members who are also looking for work. MatchWorks and ESG have established robust and meaningful relationships with Indigenous mentors, local employers and trainers who make a real difference to people’s lives,” she said.
“Once the program is complete, job seekers will continue to workshop activities with their MatchWorks and ESG mentors and marketers to help increase their chances of gaining ongoing employment. We have already seen a lot of successful outcomes across the country and we’re keen to continue that success.”
The Deadly Yakka launch will be held at Northern Blues Football Club, 23 Cramer Street, Preston starting at 11.30am.
Deadly Yakka launched in Victoria in 2014, and has been delivered at locations in ACT, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
