Briannah finds new hope and purpose with the right job

Briannah with her employer, Kylie Burford from Spiders Boxing Club in Brisbane.

Brisbane job seeker Briannah Cleghorn came to MatchWorks with multiple barriers to employment. Living with depression and anxiety, the 20-year-old was low in confidence and struggled to leave home most days. Briannah then tapped into support services to aid her recovery. She also reached out to her local MatchWorks to connect her with the right employer.

Employment Consultant Alan Pleass worked closely with the young job seeker to find out her strengths and interests. An opportunity soon opened up to do a traineeship at Spiders Boxing Club and Briannah was determined to make the most of it. At the end of the traineeship, Briannah was rewarded with a permanent part-time administration position.

“We knew straight away with a little bit of confidence and the right training, Briannah would fit into the Spiders family perfectly,” Club President Kylie Burford said.

“Briannah has embraced the opportunity, showing initiative, attention to detail and a willingness to learn. Her reliability and punctuality is to be commended and her work ethic is of a high standard.

“Thank you to MatchWorks for everything – Carlos and Alan always listened to my needs from an employer’s perspective and were amazing!”

Briannah said her life has started moving forward now that she has been connected to the right job.

“I am thoroughly enjoying my time working for Spiders Boxing Club,” Briannah said.

“The staff and members are all very welcoming and respectful and I have learnt many new skills. I hope to only go further,” she continued.

“There was a time I never thought this would happen – I now feel a sense a hope and purpose in my life.”
