Werribee business nominated for national award

Werribee's Clockwork Cleaning Services was named as a
finalist in the prestigious National Employment Services Awards for
Excellence, which was presented in Sydney on August 30.
Through collaboration with local employment services provider
MatchWorks, business owner Malcolm Dolman has worked hard to
provide solutions and job opportunities for Werribee people facing
disadvantage. Malcolm doesn't believe in casual employment and
believes the people he employs are "as important as me".
In a statement to judges, Malcolm described one employee who
arrived as a refugee from Sudan in 2010 and spoke barely a word of
English. "I could tell straight away that he wanted to work. He was
keen to learn everything he could but he just couldn't communicate
with me," Malcolm said. "I knew his attitude was good, so I figured
we would be patient and figure something out."
MatchWorks General Manager, Michael Wasley, said "I have worked
with thousands of employers in my 16 years in the industry and I
believe Malcolm at Clockwork Cleaning is one of the good guys."
"His shelves aren't filled with books about policy and procedure
and he doesn't have a University degree on the wall. His principles
and values are demonstrated in the way he interacts and supports
his staff," Michael said. "Employment and the satisfaction of
receiving income in return for a hard days work is an important
component of social inclusion, as well as feeling and being an
active part of the local community."
"We always encourage employers to maintain an open-mind when
hiring new employees. The person looking for work may not be who
they would have traditionally hired, but with a good attitude and a
bit of support they may turn into their most reliable employee,"
Michael said.
The National Employment Awards are hosted by the National
Employment Services Association (NESA) and are now in their eighth
year.
NESA CEO, Sally Sinclair, said "These awards recognise the
dedicated professionals who are working in an industry charged with
the responsibility of assisting some of our most vulnerable
citizens to achieve economic and social inclusion."
The winners were announced at a gala dinner at The Hilton Sydney
on Thursday 30 August.
MatchWorks is the largest Job Services Australia and Disability
Employment Services provider in Victoria and has 23 offices
throughout the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne, Bendigo,
Colac, Geelong and Warrnambool.
