Getting active in Colac
15 December 2011
Active support through Karingal Accomodation Services, assists people with disabilities to participate in meaningful activities and relationships through increased independence.
Staff and participants have been working as teams to provide active support opportunities to everyone in accommodation at Karingal.
At Wallace Street in Colac this has brought about some fantastic changes and opportunities. All residents have participated in a range of household and community activities which have provided rewarding results.
Resident Matthew has purchased a fish tank and with the help of staff is caring for the new pets.
Matthew’s job also includes mopping the floor with the new mop and bucket.
Sally, Melissa, Matthew, Leanne, Doug and staff are really proud of the achievements that have been made in a whole range of areas around the home including bed making, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, operating the washing machine, hanging out and bringing in washing.
Most significantly, residents have now become more independent in different aspects of the day to day activities at Wallace Street.
